VSAT Used In HMAS Sydney II Search

Acutec are providing offshore broadband communications to the team surveying the wreck of HMAS Sydney II off the WA coast. DOF Subsea's SV Geosounder is using the ship's Sea Tel 4006 VSAT system to provide broadband data and voice services for charterers and a film crew on board.

Since supplying the maritime VSAT system in March 2007, Acutec have been supplying the vessel with reliable, high speed internet connectivity in offshore projects in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and India.

There has been intense media interest in the recent HMAS Sydney II search and now the ROV survey of the wreck site. At the start of the project there was an urgent requirement for an embarked ABC film crew to move large amounts of compressed high definition video on a daily basis. It was a straightforward task to increase the broadband capacity from ship to shore without effecting normal voice and data traffic.
