Australian free-to-air programming is broadcast to the whole continent and up to several hundred miles offshore via satellite. Known as Optus Aurora, this package can be received by Sea Tel Ku-band TVRO antennas.

The service includes public broadcaster channels from ABC and SBS. These carry good quality news, sport, drama and other general programming. Some commercial channels are also accessible depending on location.

As well as a Sea Tel antenna, suitable DVB set-top boxes and Irdeto Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) are required. Although free of charge, the channels are encrypted so the one-off purchase of an Optus smart card is necessary.

Optus Aurora has been discontinued and replaced with VAST Free to Air satellite TV.
