Satellite TV systems on commercial vessels and superyachts that have limited itineraries require little or no maintenance. This is not the case when the vessel re-locates to a different part of the world however. This is because Ku-band satellite TV coverage beams are always focused on the TV company's customers. These are almost always located in a single country or region.

A vessel re-locating to a different region therefore needs to locate a suitable satellite TV service provider, sign up for a new account and acquire suitable satellite set top boxes and smart cards.


The programme equips the student with an understanding of satellite TV services in use around the world today. Using online tools, the student will be able to determine which services are available on an itinerary and acquire set top boxes and cards.

On board, the student will gain an understanding of the vessel's satellite TV reception and distribution systems. This is essential to permit proper re-configuration for the new service. With hands-on sessions on Sea Tel TVRO equipment.

As well as installing the new boxes and setting up the Sea Tel 94, 04 or 97 series satellite TV antenna, This is essential to enable proper installation and optimisation of the new equipment.
